A wait list has formed for guests who want to attend a fundraiser hosted by Oprah Winfrey for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama at her Santa Barbara, Calif., estate.
The event sold out so quickly that the Illinois senator's own finance team had been limited to seven tickets each for the $2,300-per-person event on Sept. 8, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.
. This comes from the November 2004 of O, Oprah Magazine. Oprah introduces Obama and interviews him. My reactions included the following: a) his rock-star status was thrust upon him, b) he isn't terribly eloquent, and c) O? Oprah has her own magazine? Unbelievable! Further, from what I've seen in the debates, I don't particularly like his policies."I don't consider myself political and I seldom interview politicians. So when I decided to talk with you [Barack], people around me were like, 'What's happened to you?' I said, 'I think this is beyond and above politics.' It feels like something new." — Oprah
You may feel that way, Oprah. Barack is African-American. So are you. That part is not new, though. Remember Jesse Jackson? Obviously, Obama is not Jesse Jackson. I guess it's Barack's electability and broader appeal that is new. You tell me.
But, at the end of the day, it's still Dems vs. Republicans. If you openly take sides through endorsement, I feel you are subject to fair criticism. After all, it's still politics.

As I asked in the earlier post, does it matter that Oprah is doing this? She is hosting Barack at her home to give him $ to win the primaries for the Democratic Party. Does anyone care? Or does Oprah have so much goodwill that she can play politics and still avoid offending Republican and conservative Independent viewers?
