One of 23 South Koreans held hostage in Afghanistan by the Taliban has been killed, and militants have threatened to execute 14 others, a local official and a Taliban spokesman told CNN on Wednesday.
Police in southeastern Ghazni province confirmed that the dead man's bullet-riddled body was found in the Qara Bagh district, where the Koreans were kidnapped July 19.
"We found a male dead body of a South Korean who has got 10 bullet holes in his body, bullet holes from head to toe," said provincial police chief Gen. Ali Shah Ahmadzai.
The 14 hostages still being held could be executed by early morning Thursday if demands by Taliban militants aren't met, said Taliban spokesman Qari Mohammad Yousif Ahmadi.
The South Korean was killed, said Ahmadi, because the Taliban's demands of a prisoner release and withdrawal of South Korean troops from Afghanistan were not met.
Ahmadi told CNN it is likely that the remaining hostages would be killed by 1 a.m. Thursday (4:30 p.m. ET Wednesday) if those demands are not answered.
The 23 church volunteers -- 18 women and five men -- were seized on the main road south from Kabul last week.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has pledged not to swap prisoners for hostages after being heavily criticized for releasing five Taliban members from jail in March in exchange for an Italian reporter.
These are irrational madmen. These were church volunteers. Not likely Muslims, but not up to any evil. Their only goal was likely the "sin" of helping Afghans secure more peace and happiness. Shoot the hostage 10 times from head to foot?
I'm glad we've got Mitt. His speeches clearly demonstrate his robust understanding of terrorism's gravity and threat. The other contenders? Nope.
You even discount Rudy, you ask? Yeah, he was a good guy capable of calming people down, as well as attending many funerals. Right place at the right time is what Rudy lucked out on. 9/11 both created and exalted his political legacy. But, upon close inspection of his terrorism-related and other activities, Rudy falls flat. Try as he might, the fumes of 9/11 are all but gone.
Recently, I've only heard Rudy grandstanding about 9/11. I'm not saying by this YouTube video that I believe Ron Paul is correct. I just don't like Rudy's style of showmanship. His face and voice express his insincerity. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I saw the night of the debates and noticed again 5 minutes ago--feigned indignation. Rudy had to have heard some of Ron Paul's arguments. His performance was pure theatrics.
