Fellow Republican Senators Helping Vitter Through Difficult Times

Scandal-linked senator returning to work, colleague says

Read this to see how Vitter--recently linked to an alleged prostitution service--is working through this challenging period. I made an earlier post on My Man Mitt about Senator Vitter's connection to Rudy's campaign.

I am pleased that Vitter's colleagues are helping him work through this tough time. In fact, Senator DeMint of South Carolina--a Romney supporter--was quoted in the story. DeMint's comments in the above story include the following:

Vitter's Senate colleagues are "very anxious to help him get through this," and offered some perspective on the scandal.

"There are many senators out there on the Senate floor who have had moral disasters in their past that have weathered it and been here for decades," DeMint said. "And we might want to remember some of those."

"He seems to be handling it in a very responsible way," said DeMint. "He is saying he was wrong."

"I can't say what he's going to do," DeMint said. "But he seems to want to address it head-on and not want to hide from the mistakes that he's made. He's not trying to cover it up."

"Obviously, he has a whole lot of remorse and wants to put this behind him," DeMint told CNN. "This is something he'd gotten out with his wife and family long before. Just none of the rest of us knew about it."

I believe DeMint and others are doing the right thing. Don't pile on when Vitter is going through the appropriate process. No lying under oath like Slick Willie. Senator Vitter dealt w/ this, though not publicly, years ago with his wife. All of us make mistakes. Let's help one another when we do so.
