Fred is: (a) Dishonest (b) "Dumb as Hell" (c) Both Answers are Correct

I guessed (a). Here are the facts; you be the judge:

In 1994, a card with Thompson's signature on it effectively said he was "ok" with abortion in the first three months of pregnancy. Now Fred claims to have always been pro-life and says he doesn't remember the card at all. Below is a quote from an interview Sean Hannity did with Fred on June 6th:

Hannity told Thompson, “I’ve examined your record THOROUGHLY (his emphasis) now knowing this interview was coming up. There are three issues come up where people question your conservatism. One is when you checked the box in 1994 when you were running for Senate where the box said ‘abortion should be legal in all circumstances for the first three months.’

That wasn’t your voting record, interestingly. Did you make a mistake checking that box?” (Comment: Notice how Hannity gives him an easy out right at the start.) Thompson said he didn’t remember “that box,” that it may have been a staff member doing it for him “based on what they thought my position was.”

Watch a YouTube video of this above conversation.

Today, evidence clearly shows Thompson lobbied for the pro-choice agenda in 1991. As pointed out by Brody (see Nealie's earlier post), Thompson's claims about his past are evolving. He first had an underling claim, "Fred Thompson did not lobby for this group, period." Then, when more evidence against him piled up, he shifted, claiming, "no recollection of doing any work on behalf of this group."

We now know Thompson lobbied for 20 hours in 1991-92 for this group. Will his story change again? As one who practices law, I empathize. I, too, forget about work I have done in the past. However, I ALWAYS remember once details about the work are brought up. This is true of irrelevant assignments that took only 30 minutes of my time. That Thompson has "no recollection" of a project he spent 20 hours on over a two-years period is hard to believe, even if it was 15 or 16 years ago.

So, is Thompson lying to us about his recollections, or is his abnormally weak memory evidence that Nixon was right when he said Fred was "dumb as hell" 34 years ago? There's certainly evidence to support both claims, but I'm sticking with (a) for now.
