David Goodhearts, Executive President of NY Ferrets' Rights Advocacy, speaks with Rudy while mayor of NYC.
I know virtually nothing about ferrets and even less about legal matters relative to ferrets.
However, it's very easy to recognize that Rudy is rude to this caller. It's true the caller is likely an odd individual to care so greatly for ferrets. Yet, Rudy comes after the guy in a fairly personal way without knowing who in the world the caller really is.
Among other things, Rudy tells the dude to visit a psychiatrist to get help.
Rudy even says, "There's something deranged about you." Ferret rights' people are unusual, but let's be nice to everyone, OK?
As hilarious as this video was (on one hand), it's pretty easy to see why Rudy was so unpopular and polarizing pre-9/11.

I'm a huge supporter of Mitt and not Giuliani, and that being said,
Giuliani is right about this guy and called it perfectly.
The people with whom he was unpopular and "polarizing" recently made "Rudyland". We landed on the movie for about 5 minutes, but they laced it with hardcore porn in their illustration of what a fascist he supposedly was. We couldn't change the channel fast enough.
Anybody the "Rudyland" makers, and this guy, hate, is doing something right... in NYC.
You may be right about this ferret guy and the "Rudyland" people. I don't know specific history of those people.
I repeat, however, that Rudy could have been more diplomatic. Mitt's style is clearly different (and superior), and one that I appreciate.
It is more effective in the short- and long-term to avoid insults and unfair characterizations of people you don't know. Rudy did just that several times on his radio show.
Mitt is dignified and presidential in his encounters--even with political opponents. You won't find him in YouTubes telling another to visit a psychiatrist.
You're completely right about Mitt's style. His diplomacy is great in and of itself, plus it exudes intelligence and wisdom. I was impressed during the whole Petraeus testimony/Move On episode followed by the Iranian president visit, Mitt spoke firmly and eloquently while it seemed that Giulani and McCain were trying to "outmachoman" one another.
That being said,
this Giuliani call is pure candy.
Somebody needed to say these things badly to this guy. No, it shouldn't have been the mayor, or any other public official. Had it been Mitt, I'd think less of him, but still that is one of the greatest bits ever.
