Slick Hillary

Wonderful editorial over at INVESTORS BUSINESS DAILY:

Without her husband's gift for triangulation and obfuscation, Hillary Clinton has forgotten that if you're going to take both sides of an issue, don't do it in the same room before the same audience.

At Tuesday's Democratic presidential debate, the senator from New York was asked by moderator Tim Russert about her statement to a Nashua, N.H., editorial board that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's plan to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens made a lot of sense. Clinton said that since illegal aliens were driving on our roads anyway, all Spitzer was trying to do was "fill the vacuum left by the failure of this administration to bring about comprehensive immigration reform."

But as Russert questioned Sen. Chris Dodd, Clinton evidently remembered that 72% of New Yorkers oppose Spitzer's plan. "I just wanted to add," she interjected, "I did not say it should be done, but I certainly recognize why Gov. Spitzer is trying to do it." At this point, to the befuddlement of Dodd, Russert and everyone else, she was saying it made sense to do what she didn't say should be done.

Later Russert asked, point blank: "Do you support his (Spitzer's) plan?" Clinton circled back and said, "You know, Tim, this is where everybody plays gotcha. It (Spitzer's plan) makes a lot of sense. What is the governor supposed to do?"

Considering that Spitzer has reached a compromise with the feds involving a three-tiered system of licenses, we wouldn't have been surprised if Hillary had responded, "Well, Tim, that depends on the meaning of the word 'license.' "

It's tough to have in both ways, Hillary. Pick a position, already!
More about immigration in NY:
What a governor, particularly the governor of a state that was ground zero on 9/11, is supposed to do is comply with federal law, particularly the REAL ID Act, and make sure illegal aliens aren't in the country, much less on our roads. Valid and secure driver's licenses should be in the hands only of American citizens and legal residents.

Amen! I live in NY. What is Spitzer thinking?!

When I heard this story on the radio and when I read it hear, Hillary looks really bad. When I watched it on television, she looked 10x worse. I sure hope she wins the nomination.
