The latest rhetoric from the Concord Monitor is disappointing. It's one thing to see weak character attacks from lunatics across the country as they weigh in on every article posted on the internet in the form of anonymous comments. Like a kid overdoing a gingerbread house, they heap on the barbs and the skepticism and the snarkiness in the hopes that their sarcasm will make them seem credible and informed. Of course, it ends up pathetic, and I'm glad that many people are smart enough to take comments with a grain of salt. When a major newspaper stoops to that same ridiculous level of rhetoric, it disappoints me more (although I'm getting more used to it!).
Any and all liberals (including the DNC) are pulling out all the stops to disparage Romney before he makes it to the final contest. Because he's the most dangerous to them, of course. He's the most capable and qualified candidate in either party.
So, how do you do that?
You start quibbling about a word here or there and completely ignore the substance of the dialog. Whether Mitt remembers the MLK march with his dad or was a lifelong hunter can be argued all day long, but it really doesn't matter! Because, whether he misspoke or not, the substance is still there. His father WAS a supporter of civil rights when it was unpopular. Mitt HAS been a friend to gun owners throughout his life. He discussed those issues to convey his actual record proven positions, not to throw up a smoke-screen. And yet the media would much rather strain at a gnat than engage in a discussion of the issues.
Do we really want to get into the irrational bickering about a person's motivations that just distracts from the substance? Anyone who is at all reasonable can't look at Mitt's life without conceding that here is a great man who has done an incredibly successful job in both public and private service. He's the real deal. Don't let him get away, and don't let liberals get away with derailing discussion of the REAL issues.
