Daddy Problems?

The news about Huckabee's past just keeps getting worse. Here are two newish stories involving David Huckabee:

(1) In 1998 David Huckabee, Gov. Huckabee's son, tortured and killed a stray dog that he and his friend caught at Boy Scout camp. They beat the dog almost to death, hung it by the neck in a tree and slit it's throat. No charges were ever filed. After all, he was the governor's kid. Story.

I saw this story pop up on various blogs, but not on any big blogs. It certainly looks like the story is true and I've heard no refutation, but I didn't read it directly from the paper as this blog claims to have done. If anyone can hook me up with a more official web source that would be great.

(2) In April of this year, David Huckabee, 26, was arrested for attempting to carry a loaded Glock onto an airplane. He claimed that he forgot he had it in his carry on and he was cooperative with the police through the arrest and questioning. Story.

Now, close your eyes and imagine what the media would have done if one of Mitt's sons had done this... The liberal MSM wants Huck to win the nomination. No doubt about it.

I remember the story well. I was a supporter of Huckabee then. I am an Arkansas resident, I had voted for him for governor. I had a good democrat friend. and we used to argue about politics quite a bit. One day he brought me a copy of the newspaper and showed me the article about David Huckabee hanging and torturing the dog. I was appalled. I just didn't know what to say, but that was the beginning of my disenchantment with Huckabee. His son had done a very creepy horrible thing. It took time before I totally gave up on Huckabee though, because I realize that good people have kids that do bad things. But David Huckabee was 18 and his actions reflected badly on his upbringing. My husband and sons attended Camp Pioneer where the incident happened. My husband remembers him there. He said he was popular among the younger kids. I guess that charm runs in the family, but what does it mask. For the record, I am completely against Huckabee's candidacy for the Presidency because he turned out to be so liberal. By the way, my democratic friend came to like the liberal side of Mike Huckabee quite a bit.

Outstanding comment. Thanks for the insight. Like you, the fascination with Huckabee is mind-boggling for me.
