My blog entries here have been sparse and short. I've become a habitual reader of other peoples' thoughts without wanting to take the time to write something thorough for myself. Frankly, I'm amazed at the sheer effort people are willing to put into following the campaign by referencing the minutia of past campaigns and following hundreds of news outlets.
As I've watched Mitt Romney I've gone from being skeptical, to showing admiration, to becoming outright certain that he's the best person to lead this country. But that's not what this post is supposed to be about.
This post is about Romney as a role model. Not just because he's smart, hard working, and is an honorable person. Rather, it's because he's eternally optimistic, incredibly even-tempered, and because he's the type of person I could have my kids look to as a role model for temperament as well as competency.
During the last several days Romney has taken even more flack from the press. I thought they might have already peaked in the ridiculously uneven coverage they could achieve, but never under-estimate them! Romney has been called angry, hysterical, dishonest, frantic, and phony by both a myriad of pundits in the MSM and his rivals. And how does he respond? He responds cooly and rationally. His ability to be decent and above-board defies my ability to comprehend. He has been given every reason to be angry and hysterical by the unfairness of it all, but he calmly continues to offer his vision for a better America despite everything.
Whether Romney gets elected or not (he will, I predict), he has certainly done a great public service regardless. He has inspired me to be a better person, slower to anger, and to remember that what people say about you doesn't matter as much as what you know about your own character and honor.
