McCain tries to "Swift" boat Romney

John McCain's still in a major negative campaign mode. Today he unleashed another attack dog, Jane Swift, to try and "Swift" boat Mitt Romney.

She unloaded a pack of lies, the same half-truths that McCain's direct mail had already sent out a few days ago. Not really worth going into here as they've already been refuted.

But I think you might want to read a little about Jane Swift. After knowing her history you might join me in just laughing off bitter Jane's attacks on behalf of the angry old crank McCain.

She got off to a promising start as a State Senator thanks to her father's political connections, but then in her first real election test, lost her race to represent Massachusetts in the US Congress. She managed to get selected as Paul Cellucci Lt. Gov but when he resigned to be a US Ambassador, the state was left to Jane Swift who promptly ran it into the ground.

Jane Swift holds a record for the lowest approval ratings of modern times for a Massachusetts Governor. She also took a lot of fire for giving the appearances of abusing the office, including personal use of state vehicles and having State House aides babysit for her.

And so when it was time for the MA GOP to pick their candidate for Governor in 2002, they dropped her like a bad habit. The Republicans knew that Mitt Romney was their best hope to keep the governor's office and he sure delivered.

It took some time to turn MA back around after the damage Swift inflicted, but Romney was up to the task. He's a turnaround pro. That 3 billion dollar budget shortfall that Romney had to overcome (without raising taxes!) was the legacy of Jane Swift. Swift still has a grudge about Mitt Romney getting the job she wasn't qualified for, and it's a disturbing thing to see her spending her time propping up McCain.
