Jon at Blogs for Mitt discusses this very well in the following story: Glen Johnson Picks A Fight With Mitt.
I'll only say a few things. My thoughts:
Too many of these "reporters" are concerned more with their point of view than they are with relaying the facts to the masses.
In this case, a grouchy Glen Johnson hit Mitt with some unsolicited argumentative questions. Naturally, Mitt refuted Mr. Johnson's bogus claims remarkably well.
Take-home message: Mitt can take a lame punch and return with a few blows himself.
Update: The Politico.com reports the following:
McCain — the target of Romney’s original comment about lobbyists — had frequent dealings with lobbyists when he was chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee.
And McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, is a former lobbyist.
That was Mitt's point in all this. McCain's campaign is in fact run by a former lobbyist.
Update II: Hugh Hewitt has his take:
Mary Katharine Ham has the details.
It is never a bad thing for a GOP candidate to push back against lefties disguised as reporters.
