A fellow pro-Mitt blogger just passed along some Nevada-specific data:
Wolf Blitzer just said 25% of Republican Caucus goers were Mormon.
94% of those voted for Romney.
Romnery beat Huckabee by a slim margin among Evangelicals.
That’s (25%) a overrepresentation of the LDS population. LDS people consist of somewhere between 8-12% of the Nevada population. Boy, do they like Mitt!
I’ve heard in the recent past about 90% of LDS folks vote Republican. They're generally conservative. Mitt may have just bumped up the Mormon Republican-ness 4%.
Having Mormons come out in droves in Nevada is a plus for Republicans next fall--not a minus. That is, we can win Nevada--a historically blue state. Clinton won in 1992.
And, boy, it’s nice to beat Huck among evangelicals. If Mitt garnered 94% of the LDS vote yet lost the evangelical vote (badly), this victory wouldn’t suggest such wide support.
Update: see the Nevada results by county
