Pataki has yet to endorse a candidate. Giuliani badly wants the former governor's support and has met with him on several occasions - including a recent lunch. But Pataki has spoken to other GOP hopefuls, too, including Mitt Romney, Thompson and McCain.
Ironically, a number of McCain's 2008 New York backers are former members of the Pataki administration, which unsuccessfully fought to keep McCain off the ballot here in 2000. Some are still smarting over Giuliani's 1994 decision to cross party lines to endorse former Democratic Gov. Mario Cuomo over then-state Sen. George Pataki.
"There are those who don't think [Giuliani] ever paid a legitimate price for endorsing Mario," said one former Pataki administration official. "They are truly enjoying watching Rudy struggle and have been tuning in on primary nights just to see him finish behind Ron Paul."

Sorry, but a Pataki endorsement? That and $2.00 will get you into the subway.
