Less than two weeks ago I saw a few polls from New York that showed Romney down in single digits, but with Giuliani losing his lead. See, for example, this SurveyUSA poll from Jan 11:
32% Giuliani
12% Huckabee
29% McCain
7% Romney
6% Thompson 3%
Paul 12% Other / Undecided
Giuliani has long counted on New York and New Jersey as in the bank for him as a local. Boy was his strategy of skipping the early states mistaken! He's not only plummeted in national polls, he's also lost his lead in New York. I'm happy to see that Romney is now climbing and tied for second. This was released today at WNBC/Marist poll:
John McCain 34%
Rudy Giuliani 19%
Mitt Romney 19%
Mike Huckabee 15%
Fred Thompson 6%
Ron Paul 2%
Other <1%
Undecided 5%
The moral is: never take anything for granted. If you support Romney, start making some noise here in New York. Buy a yard sign or bumper sticker. Write a letter to the editor. Let people know that Romney is the best person to lead our country, or steer them to mittromney.com so they can see for themselves.
