I sent in this letter to the editor of my local paper, the Poughkeepsie Journal...
I will be voting for Governor Mitt Romney in Tuesday's Presidential Primary. Join me in supporting this great candidate, whose vision and optimism will transform our country for the better. Governor Romney has a strong record of success, both in the private sector and in government.
After saving the 2002 Winter Olympics, Mitt was elected Governor, and turned around a state that was losing jobs and facing enormous budget deficits. While leading Massachusetts, Governor Romney worked in a bipartisan fashion with the opposition party in the legislature to make sure all his citizens had private health care. His term in office, spent cutting both taxes and spending, finished with a 2 billion dollars surplus.
These are the kinds of skills he will take to Washington DC, and transform that failing operation as well. Washington is indeed broken. Sending the same people back, just putting them in different seats, and expecting to see real change? That is just foolishness.Mitt Romney is certainly not “yet another career politician” looking to fulfill a lifetime's ambition. It's not often that you have a candidate of his caliber making the sacrifices running for public office requires. If New York were to choose a lesser candidate as the Republican nominee it would be most unfortunate.
Our country faces a vast array of challenges in the years ahead and Governor Romney is the only candidate who's got the experience and wisdom to effectively deal with them all.
Feel free to modify it and use it for your letter, or look at some of the other example letters writers here have provided.
