RNC hits Obama over Auschwitz claim

Woops. Obama made another gaffe yesterday.

The Republican National Committee accused Barack Obama Tuesday of a lack of judgment after the Illinois senator mistakenly said that his uncle helped liberate the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz while serving in the American military during World War II.

In fact, that concentration camp was liberated by Soviet soldiers in 1945.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton released a statement later Tuesday clarifying the remarks, saying the Illinois senator meant to refer to the Buchenwald camp, which American soldiers did liberate. Obama was also apparently referring to his great uncle, Charles Payne.

Follow-up by Jeff: Wow, I wonder if Obama thought he had a free pass from the MSM to go ahead and re-invent history. He almost did, but the anti-Obama blogs nailed him and the MSM was forced along kicking and screaming to write something exposing him. But how do they soften the blow? By putting an excusatory headline on the story "Obama mistaken on name of Nazi death camp."

Yea, because he'd never like, you know, purposly mislead folks or anything. Right? He's just got a problem winning Jewish voters, so tying his life's story to Auschwitz's liberation might have helped. It's not like he's Al Gore claiming to invent the internet. Or is he? Well, it isn't the first time Obama's tried to get away with this kind of stunt.

I hope (actually, I know) the blogosphere will find out if that revised claim is true.

Separately, we need a MITT METER รก la the NYPost to gauge whose in the lead for the VP slot.

Have you seen this?:

Please, please please, I need some good news; here in NYC, its especially depressing watching the whole primary and VP processes unfold. I now even feel sorry for HRC (to a point).
