As of right now, here is our handicapping of potential Republican nominees.
Major Contenders
1. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. He remains the most solid candidate with the fewest obvious weaknesses. He many not be anybody's first choice, but he isn't much lower than second for anybody. Republicans also like people who have tried before.
