From Norton Release >> Smartest & Dumbest Politicians of 2008
Mitt Romney: The former Governor from Massachusetts has been running the political cloud for the past few years and it doesn’t seem like anything will slow him down. But the reason why he tops the list as the third smartest politician of 2008 is not because of his record in the northeast but rather his record during the primaries. When it seemed like internal party bickering would destroy the Republicans chance for a shot at the White House in 2008 he graciously withdrew his race and allowed McCain and Huckabee to shoot it out. Not only was that a smart move in terms of unifying the party it also puts him at a better position should he try and run against Obama in 2012.And making the DUMBEST list (surprise, surprise):
Michael Dale Huckabee: The name rings a bell doesn’t it? Yes its the famous Huckabee who was single handily responsible for killing the Republicans hopes of gaining the White House in 2008. Now I’m sure most of you are wondering why that is? Well by the end of January the highly contested Republican nomination had two clear front runners, John McCain and Mitt Romney. But there was a distant third who was the former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. Thanks to Huckabee who decided to still stay in the race after the first week of January many of the state primaries were split in three. McCain took his share of the pie (which was generally between 30-50%) and Romney and Huckabee were left to fight over the rest.By the middle of January it was clear that if Romney ever wanted to have a shot at the nomination Huckabee would have to bow out of the race yet he kept fighting. Romney eventually pulled out of the race on February 7′th. This of course led to McCain being the presumptive Republican nominee.
Now while there is much debate as to whether Romney could have outwitted the Obama machine and pull off a stunning victory, one thing is clear; Romney would have been a much better Republican contender than McCain hands down.

Along these lines, from the blog 'America's Right':
"... In the weeks leading up to Super Tuesday, we saw all too well the ability of the mainstream media to shape even the votes of conservatives and republicans, as evidenced by the crowning of McCain at Mitt Romney's expense."

And does anyone find it interesting - or par for the course - that Schmuckabee's PAC is named for himself?
With Huck*Pack he displays how he's only in it for himself - not us!
This as opposed to Mitt's PAC - Free and Strong America.
HUGE difference in dignity here. Mitt Romney has such class I hate for him to be even mentioned in the same article as "that guy".
moms4mitt: I agree -- I hate to even hear / see "that guy's" name (period) But the fact that he is listed as one of the DUMBest pols of 08 ... and Romney is listed as one of the SMARTest ... I'll take it. Now, Palin being listed in the same article as one of the smartest - I think that guy is smoking something.
I totally disagree with his placement of Palin. She was not Smart enough to prepare for her news interviews.
I agree with you, Anon; she wasn't smart enough to know that she wasn't smart enough ... in fact, her "unearned" esteem or non-performance self-worth was rather scary; what has she actually ever accomplished besides being elected?
If you read the authors comments than you would see that he is not highlighting the policies of these politicians but how they played the cards dealt them.
Although Palin initially screwed up on a few debates she came back in the Vice-Presidential debate and totally kicked Joe Biden's butt.
All the polls showed that.
