Desperately in need of some sound economic advice, the GOP is turning to an MBA they can trust.
Romney appears to be happily accepting his role as the GOP’s resident turnaround guru. And House Republicans, many of whom endorsed him for president over Republican candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), are eager to put him to work.
The Republican Working Group on Economic Recovery, chaired by GOP Whip Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), summoned Romney to Capitol Hill in early January 2009 to propose alternative ideas to President Obama’s stimulus bill.(1) Weeks later, he was invited to speak at a retreat for Republican House Members where he received an effusive reception, complete with two standing ovations.
