This is Why We Need Mitt (and No Democratic Circus)

The Senate rejected a plan Wednesday to bring home U.S. troops from Iraq by early next year after spending an all-night session debating whether to demand President Bush change the mission.

The Democrats are ridiculous! Read here about their latest attempt to bring troops home from Iraq. Harry Reid (far left in picture), the most powerful Mormon in the U.S. government, is a waste. I was going to use another word (such as idiot), but decided to go with waste.

Senate Democrats had staged an all-night debate, complete with cots for lawmakers to sleep off the Senate floor, in a dramatic attempt to wear down Republicans who refuse to vote to begin to bring troops home by fall.

Republicans responded with a yawn — agreeing to stay around and respond to any votes that might be scheduled around-the-clock but remaining steadfast in their opposition to the Democrats' anti-war legislation.

Labeled a publicity stunt by Republicans, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said the debate ended up "substituting our amateur theatrics for statesmanship."

"This is nonsense," said Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska. Added Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., of his Democratic colleagues: "I bet I can stay up longer than they can."

Side Note: Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, is as Mormon as Mitt Romney. But, it's Mitt who has taken all kinds of flack for his membership in the LDS Church. Fantastic beliefs disqualify, belongs to a cult, will be controlled by Salt Lake City hierarchy.... All that and other arguments are utter nonsense. Yet, none of these things (to my knowledge) are projected to Reid. And he's in charge of running the Senate! And doing an awful job, in my opinion.
I would like to see Harry Reid interviewed about Mitt's candidacy. Why does Senator Reid think the press and others are more inclined to scrutinize Mitt's faith when he as a co-religionist is/was not subject to the same examination? Are Democrats more tolerant? Or at least more tolerant of their own kind? These are things I'd like to ask. I have my own opinions, but am interested in what Harry would say.

All of these theatrics, by the way, are truly for show only. The most recent bill, passed by the House and vetoed by Bush, actually did little in this regard. The Democrats, the AP and the MSM generally claimed it would bring all combat troops home by April 2008. However, if you read the bill itself you find it simply regulated the war (clearly an Executive power) and doesn't say a word about bringing combat troops home by April 2008.

Democrats are passing these bills for one purpose: so they can look good to their constituents. In reality, they also know bringing the troops home would be a disaster at this point and they do not want to go that route at all.
