It's not like me to be so venomous, but McCain has really disappointed. I could support him if he's the nominee, and unlike many of my republican friends, I don't really care that he's not the most conservative person in the race. I'm not completely conservative myself. But I digress.
McCain has offended me today with his blatant hypocrisy as he touts himself as a "straight talker" but purveys blatant lies about Mitt Romney. I have no problem with him harshly criticizing Romney for the faults Romney actually has, but he's gone way past that. Only a couple weeks ago McCain played the moral superiority card, accusing Romney of going negative and exaggerating/misrepresenting McCain's views and past record. Romney has responded that he and his campaign carefully researched every fact put forth in their contrast advertisements.
Today and yesterday, McCain has accused Romney of favoring a troop withdrawal timetable in Iraq, something that he knows very well is completely untrue. If he didn't know it yesterday, he certainly knew it by the time he said it again today, after Romney had the chance to specifically respond.
So, there you have it. McCain, a good person who prides himself on his straight talk and the confidence you can place in him, has sold his soul once again when the heat of an election requires him to put his integrity out of sight and out of mind.
